PILING & OTHER EARTH WORK PROJECTS

Piling & Other Earth Work Projects

Piling is the essential technique of setting deep foundations for any form of construction work, such as buildings. Piling materials can be wood, steel or concrete and the choice is important for your building to have a sturdy foundation.

Piling is a process of inserting large amounts of wood, steel or concrete into the soil of the ground. The deep insertion of these elements ensures a sturdier base for construction projects to take place. Imagine if your office building didn’t have any structured base underneath—your building wouldn’t be standing for long! People don’t often realize exactly what goes into construction work, but as any contractor will tell you, there is a lot of planning, measuring and hard labor involved.

Pile driving is a traditional technique used to create drive piles. It’s similar to driving a nail into a board, except that you’re using pneumatically driven shafts that allow you to drill deeper into the ground.

Earthwork is one of the major elements of industrial hydroengineering, transportation and civil engineering construction. The purposes of earthwork are the creation of engineering works from the soil (such as dams, railroads, highways and canals), laying foundations for buildings and structures which are erected from other materials, levelling areas under development for building and the removal of masses of earth in order to open up mineral deposits. Open-pit mining and underground mining work involve earthwork. Works are created from earth by excavating the ground or by raising embankments from the ground (soil). An excavation dug solely for the extraction of soil is called a reserve , while an embankment formed during the pouring off of unnecessary soil is called a dump – these terms come from earlier times when dumps were made by digging shallow holes in areas where there would be no vegetation).
